We have shot quite a number of events and I am here to tell you free of charge as a member of “event photographer’s WhatsApp group”, that we see some of the things you people do in planning and we gossip about it after every shoot, LOL.
Well, it is needless to say that anyone who has been in the event space for even a minute will know that events, even our events down here can be a lot of things wrapped up in one, but they are not entirely perfect. A perfect event is a myth, there’s always one drama or the other. However, our events can sure be excellent, rising above everything that may come up, be it vendor drama, guest drama, or venue facility manager that is in alliance with village people.
Many times, our events are self-planned, and some other times we have seen some try to take it a step higher by hiring an event planner. Both options are fine depending on what you as the host have in mind, but many times our events are planned from various perspectives except from the photographer’s. I’m sure you are wondering if this is supposed to be a thing but hold up.
Our events are characterized by the fine food, the amazing décor, the colorful outfits, and all. Where all of these carefully curated and put in place is great, less concern is put into immortalizing the moments and memories from that day. You spend so much time and resources planning for something as memorable as your wedding day and at the end of the day, all you are left with as a reminder, won’t be the décor, or the food or the souvenirs. What you will have to look back to years after will be the pictures from the event, and yet we almost literally skip through that in planning.
Someone probably is reading this and saying ‘I’ll just hire a really good photographer and that settles it’. The question however is, does it just settle it? Great images aren’t just a result of an amazing photographer in isolation, but a lot of other factors we sometimes skip over in planning, and that’s why your event always ends up in our gossip because you assume you got a magician and not a photographer.
Every aspect of your event planning has a way of interacting amongst itself and can have some sort of effect on either your photographer or the photographs he can capture. Think about every vendor and every aspect of your event as various pieces coming together, working together to give you that excellent and thrilling event. And that’s the purpose of this series.
So, if you just got engaged or you are planning an event, or you are an event enthusiast, this series is something I am sure will be very helpful in planning your wedding from a photographer’s point of view, why? Because at the end of the day, that’s all to have to show.
Join us in this journey, as we go through each aspect of your planning, making suggestions, tweaks, and cheats on how to get the best out of your event. If you are reading this, but are not planning an event, I’d say go get yourself engaged, and stop being single, it is a new year.
